Spring Sports Preview: Softball
-Elizabeth Sexton
With the spring sports season recently coming into the view of our student-athletes, many girls have tried out for the 2019 PTHS Softball season. Several new faces ranging from freshman to seniors have joined the program with great excitement for the upcoming season. The girl’s varsity team is being coached by Coach Longoria and Coach Bayha, while the girl’s junior varsity team is being coached by Coach Glassman, Coach Rhea, and Coach Dimedio. Both teams have been practicing for the past two weeks and have been undergoing new training drills and techniques differing from last year’s preseason. Many returning players, and even new ones, are hopeful that the change in exercises will aid them in leading a victorious season and possibly to gaining a banner in the school’s gym. This year, both teams’ coaches have been focusing on both the players’ skills in games as well as boosting the team’s togetherness and morale. Even though a majority of the girls are returning players, the coaches have been aiding the new players and old players in becoming a united team to ensure good communication and support in their upcoming games. With their new approach to the season, the girls are looking forward to a promising season with the first varsity scrimmage on March 18th at 3:45; away vs. BCIT Medford and the first junior varsity scrimmage on March 21st at 4:00; home vs. Holy Spirit. The season home opener, for both teams, is scheduled for April 1st against Burlington City at 3:45 p.m. so make sure to come and support the PTHS Softball teams.
